Energy Generation Conference: Daniel DeJoode Presenting on Proposed Changes to NEPA regulations

Event Details

Our very own Senior Scientist, Daniel DeJoode, presented at the Energy Generation Conference in Bismarck, North Dakota. Daniel presented about recent developments and proposed changes to NEPA regulations. This annual conference, hosted by Bismarck State College, is a cooperative effort among producers, suppliers and educators to promote competitive, efficient and safe energy production.

Presentation Topic

One Federal Decision and Other Developments in the National Environmental Policy Act: The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) is an evolving mechanism to review federal actions and private projects subject to federal approval. The Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) issued NEPA regulations in 1978 and updated them in 1986. Since that time, no substantial modifications have been made to the regulations that guide NEPA implementation for dozens of federal agencies. Recent initiatives by the executive branch aim to streamline the NEPA process by updating regulations and consolidating all federal review into a single approval process. This presentation describes the proposed changes to NEPA regulations and their status of implementation as well as the implications for energy generation and transmission.
