Although concrete is a well-engineered material that has been used for hundreds of years, there are still concrete structures that do not perform as well as desired. At Braun Intertec, we prefer to help our clients avoid these issues proactively rather than after-the-fact by providing services before and during construction. However, our staff’s understanding of construction practices, concrete performance in different environments, and the microscopic mechanisms within concrete equips us to help clients investigate the origins of failures.
We have a variety of tools and strategies at our disposal to pinpoint the origins of failures. Nondestructive testing techniques can be combined with petrographic analysis and laboratory testing to understand the physical properties of the material related to observed distresses. Other than determining the cause of failures, the goal of forensic evaluations can be to provide repair guidance.
