After 46 years at Braun Intertec, Ray Huber, Vice President in the geotechnical engineering group, has retired. Ray’s professional journey has been nothing short of extraordinary, defined by his engineering excellence, mentorship, and commitment to both clients and colleagues. We wish Ray the best as he enters the next chapter of his life and celebrate the remarkable legacy he will leave behind at Braun Intertec.

Joining Braun Intertec in 1977, Ray became a cornerstone of the engineering group’s expansion in the Twin Cities. He quickly grew into a mentor and a rich source of engineering knowledge, while contributing to the growth of the company’s client base. Progressing through various roles, from senior engineer to office leader, operational director, and ultimately vice president, Ray made substantial contributions to many high-impact projects, including Cappella Tower, Dain Tower, the Federal Reserve Bank Building, Twins Ballpark, the U.S. Bank Stadiums, and numerous heavy and light rail endeavors. Ray consistently pushed boundaries and played a key role in building an impressive project portfolio that solidified the company’s position in the Twin Cities market.

Longtime friend and colleague, Mike Heuer, shares, “Ray and I grew up together and we learned from each other – we learned from our mistakes and our successes, and it was always a blast working with Ray. He has pushed the envelope his entire career. There were times when I would try to reign him in… but ultimately everything we did turned out to be successful, which is a testament to his engineering ability and his passion for geotechnical engineering.”

In addition to his notable project contributions, Ray served as an invaluable mentor and resource for his colleagues and emerging engineers at Braun Intertec. It was not unusual to see a queue of engineers around Ray at the office, seeking his guidance on engineering challenges. Ray’s ability to translate his expertise into accessible insights has been a tremendous asset for colleagues, partners, and clients. Ray not only fostered a culture of continuous learning and growth but also infused a sense of camaraderie and fun into the workplace.

One of the most enduring legacies Ray has imparted onto his team and others at Braun Intertec is his steadfast dedication to clients. Ray was known for his phrase, “Develop Your Book of Business”, which served as a reminder to engineers to prioritize building strong client relationships. Whether digging out a 35-foot swamp, saving a client half a million dollars doing a deep soil correction, or traversing muddy jobsites in his tie and dress shoes, our goal was to help our clients be successful. Ray was always committed to not just completing the job, but completing it with excellence.

We want to echo the sentiments of Ray’s colleague, Matt Ruble, to express our collective gratitude to Ray for setting a standard of excellence and dedication for us all to follow, “Your commitment to the job and our clients was second to none. You served them very well. Your legacy will continue forever because you touched so many lives at Braun Intertec. The time you spent on myself, and other generations is spectacular. Thank you for your contributions to the company and the engineering community overall.”

Thank you, Ray, and congratulations on your retirement!
