Lock and Dam No. 10 is a 763-foot-long concrete dam located on the upper Mississippi River in Guttenberg, Iowa. For the proposed riverfront development and marina below the structure, we performed a geotechnical evaluation, which involved performing a series of standard penetration borings and laboratory tests to characterize the engineering properties of the soil. As part of the evaluation, we provided soil parameters required for IIW Engineers and Surveyors to design retaining walls, segmental retaining walls and size-driven piles to resist applied lateral loads.

Monticello Wastewater Treatment Plant Levee

We provided geotechnical engineering to evaluate the structural retrofit of an existing levee at the City of Monticello’s wastewater treatment plant. The evaluation included soil borings testing and analysis. We also provided recommendations to improve the levee through the use of additional earthwork.

Iowa River Levee

We provided geotechnical engineering to support FEMA certification and the design of a new 3,000-foot-long levee that extended along the Iowa River. The levee protects approximately 160 homes and 20 businesses. Our geotechnical evaluation and analysis were performed in accordance with FEMA and Army Corps of Engineers requirements. We also coordinated field exploration, laboratory testing and analysis.
