Although application of this method is dwindling, radiography is still used in many weld quality assurance and quality control inspections. During the last decade, industry has sought ways to replace radiography as the primary method of volumetric inspection for welds, as the technique can be slow, expensive, generate waste, and can require additional licensing and certification and involve use of hazardous materials. Phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) has emerged as an alternative to radiography and other less effective nondestructive testing (NDT) methods as the new standard in weld inspection reliability.
Watch the video below to watch Braun Intertec advanced ultrasonics project manager David Putnam to learn how you can improve your weld quality, reduce your safety liability, and realize significant cost savings by choosing a more modern approach to weld inspection. This presentation will also highlight why automated ultrasonic testing, or UT, methods are becoming the new standard and have a significant advantage over Radiographic Testing (RT).
